Our Swift Box is meticulously designed to provide a safe and inviting habitat for these incredible aerial creatures. Crafted with attention to detail and tailored to meet the specific needs of swifts, this box ensures if occupied, they stand a good chance of a successful nesting.Constructed using sustainably sourced 18mm ply, our Swift Box is built to withstand the elements while blending into the eaves of your building. Its robust materials and precise design offer excellent insulation, providing a cozy and secure space for swifts to thrive.Designed with the nesting requirements of swifts in mind, this box features a ladder entrance to help Swifts enter the box. The internal design mimics the dark, enclosed spaces that swifts prefer for nesting, encouraging their return year after year. Shipping Information

We aim to ship all boxes in 5 to 7 days of order placement. However, at busy times this can be up to 3 weeks due to the nature of hand finishing each product.

The exceptions to this are Apex boxes and Bespoke boxes which can take up to 4 weeks to manufacture.

Shipping rates are based on your order weight.

Shipping charges range from £5.00 to £20, with most boxes shipping at £13.00.

We currently only ship to addresses within the UK.

Materials

Our boxes are made from 18mm sustainably sourced ply.

The ply has excellent water resistance, the surface is breathable and water vapour can move freely. This is one of the reasons why our ply will not delaminate, unlike others available. You do not need to treat the ply prior to mounting the box.

The paint used on roofs of boxes (if applicable) is a water based, heat reflective, roofing paint.

All screws used are stainless steel. We design the boxes to minimise our reliance on screws.

Hanging Instructions

Detailed instructions will come with your box.

    1. Screw the mounting plate in the appropriate position (look at the plate and follow the arrow). This will be a horizontal orientation. Mount at least 2cm below the top of where the box will be. Use screws suitable for the material of the wall.
    2. You can then hook the box onto the mounting plate.
    3. When the box is ‘hung’ on the mounting plate, look in the interior of the box.
    4. Screw the box to the mounting plate with the screws provided. The box should now be secure.
    Placement Advice

Placing boxes high up is desirable, hence our range of apex boxes, although they have been known to nest as low as 1.5 metres. Under bargeboards and corner boxes seem very attractive to swifts which also seem to like the look of drain pipes.

Avoid south facing walls if possible because of overheating. Always make sure that the swifts have a good, clear approach both below and in front, avoiding obstacles like tree branches and telephone wires.

    Care & Maintenance

There is no need to treat or paint the boxes prior to putting them up. If you desire to paint the box, we suggest using a water-based, non-toxic paint. Top tip: paint the box before mounting.

We suggest inspecting the box once a year when you are very confident there are no nesting birds using it.

To clean the box, if needed:

    • Sweep out any leaf litter or pellets from the base of the box.
    • Using a weak solution of dish soap and warm water, wipe the whole box down, making sure to clean in the corners.
    • Make sure the box is dry before replacing any substrate on the box floor.
    • This is done to ensure any pests or diseases carried by nesting birds are eliminated.

    To maintain the box:

    • While your box is down for a clean, inspect all sides and joints for any damage.
    • If, in the unlikely event of any cracks, fill with wood filler and make sure this dries fully.
    • Inspect the mounting plate and fixings before remounting the box.

    Bat Back Compatible

Bat Backs are unique to Peak Boxes. We found bats were nesting behind our boxes so we decided to make them more secure and comfortable.  Our bat backs replace our standard mounting plate to provide a grooved surface for bats to nest on.
